Central YMCA operates across four regions of the UK. Our Central London site, which has been our home since 1911, is our flagship hub for education, health and wellbeing – and is home to YMCA Club, the largest gym facility in central London.
Our education and employment programmes run in 10 local communities and support 16-19-year-olds to develop new skills and gain the necessary qualifications and work experience to move into further training or employment.
We also work nationally through our fitness education training and apprenticeship delivery teams to provide tuition, guidance and support to our learners, so they can realise their full potential. Through our awarding organisation, YMCA Awards, we develop UK-regulated and globally-recognised qualifications. We work closely with industry experts, employers and training providers to make sure that our products and services deliver life-changing opportunities. There’s more detail about all of these strands here.
Over nearly two centuries, Central YMCA’s achievements have included establishing some of the earliest public education programmes in the world, building London's largest gym, training more than 120,000 health and fitness professionals, pioneering health programmes for people living with HIV, and providing thousands of young people with the skills they need to turn their life around.
Today, we continue to provide access to life-changing opportunities for people who wouldn’t otherwise have it. For many, the impact of a twice-weekly swim, or the chance to gain a marketable qualification, or to break the cycle of loneliness through meeting up at one of our centres, can be totally transformative.
