Candidate information

Sharing the stewardship of this remarkable enterprise is one of the most challenging, stimulating and rewarding parts of my life, and I am delighted that you are also interested in becoming a member of this board.

I hope that what you read and discover about us on this site will prompt you to seek a further conversation, and I encourage you to speak to Philip Nelson or Shani Newbold at Cadence Partners in the first instance. You will find their details elsewhere on this site.

From its earliest days, Central YMCA has been distinguished by our ability to identify a social need that wasn’t being met, and our willingness to do something practical about it. That’s an excellent summary of what I want us to continue to be; but I don’t underestimate the complexity of our current operating environment, and the significant changes which have taken place in the last twelve months. Rather, it’s this that motivates me.

I am looking forward to meeting and speaking to people with a real desire to put their experience and abilities to work in the service of shaping a better future. Some roles are clearly defined: for example, we need to appoint Chairs to our Risk & Audit and Health & Well-being committees, and as a leading national provider of post-16 qualifications we are always looking to strengthen our capacity in continuing education and training – but I’m also keen to encourage applications from people with other profiles, who will bring energy, inspiration, and the kind of distinctive world-view that prompts “...I hadn’t thought about it like that…” conversations.

Let’s get to work.
